Commanded the 6th Division under Wellington in the Peninsular War. Commanded the British forces in the 1st Anglo-Burmese War 1824-1826. Lieutenant-Governor of the province of New Brunswick 1831-1837 (Appointed Lieutenant-Governor 21 March 1831 London Gazette: no. 18786, p. 546, 22 March 1831.).
