Flt Sergeant Cyril Holyoak, from New Milton in Hampshire, flew with Bomber Command during World War 2 and with Transport Command from 1945 to 1951. He flew throughout the Berlin Airlift with 59 Squadron in Avro York Aircraft mainly from Abingdon to Gatow or from Gatow to Wunsdorf.

Flt Sgt Holyoak trained at No 2 Radio School, no 8 Air Gunner school and 14 OTU. He served with 49 Squadron RAF Bomber Command at Fiskerton from July 1944 until My 1945

After the war ended he attended no 1332 Heavy Conversion Unit at Riccall and transferred to Transport Command.

He served with 246 Squadron (twice) and with 511, 51, 59 Squadrons. His flying service finished in 1951 at no 14 Reserve Flying School at Hamble.

Flt Sgt Holyoak's log books and other papers are held by the Friends of the New Forest Airfields and can be viewed by appointment at their education centre.
