The Memorial to the “Bradford Pals” at Hebuterne

Hebuterne is a small Somme village to the south of Gommecourt.
A plaque has been erected in the village to commemorate 44 Bradford Pals, soldiers of the 16th and 18th Battalions West Yorkshire Regiment, who were killed in woodland nearby. The soldiers had received reports that the area had been cleared of German soldiers, but unfortunately this intelligence was wrong.The plaque was unveiled in June 2002. A photograph of the Hebuterne Memorial is shown below.
